WHO Calls Coronavirus Outbreak ‘Pandemic’

Wednesday was the first time on the new coronavirus was referred to as a pandemic by the World Health Organization. The organization also mentioned that Iran and Italy are currently at the forefront of the disease but it won’t take long before other countries are more severely impacted.

The WHO is deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity and by the alarming levels of inaction and has, therefore, made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic.

The head of the Doppler shows emergency program Mike Ryan did add some optimism to the situation saying that there is a strong element of controllability in this disease.

According to global health experts, there are major economic and political repercussions to declaring the pandemic. The world markets which are already delicate can be further shaken and trade and travel are likely to have more restrictions placed upon them.

These are some of the reasons for WHO official’s hesitation to declare a global pandemic which is usually classified as an illness that spreads globally.
