Shocking Footage Of Black Lungs Of a Chain-smoker, Transplant Doctor Rejects His Donated Lungs

A doctor in China was forced to reject a pair of donated lungs that came from a deceased 52-year-old who had spent 30 years of his life chain-smoking. Dr. Chen Jingyu, of Wuxi People’s Hospital, said he realized he would not be able to give the lungs to a patient on the transplant list after seeing the obvious damage done to the organs due to decades of tobacco use.

But instead of being a healthy pink color they are heavily blackened from decades of tobacco residue accumulation. The clip – called the ‘best anti-smoking ad ever’ by social media users – shows Doctor Chen Jingyu and his transplant team inspecting the lungs at Wuxi People’s Hospital in Jiangsu, China. Dr. Chen, who is a leading lung transplant surgeon and also vice president of the facility, said the donor was declared brain dead and his organs were donated.

Over 300 million people in China are smokers, which accounts for nearly one-third of the world’s total, according to the World Health Organization. Nearly 2.3 trillion cigarettes were consumed in China in 2009, which is more than the combined total smoked in the top-four tobacco consuming countries. The statistics also take a grave toll on the country, with WHO calculating that someone in China dies every 30 seconds because of tobacco use.

Professor Peter Openshaw, of the National Heart and Lung Institute, said the patient had been suffering from lung pulmonary emphysema.

It causes the organs to become severely inflamed and expand and makes sufferers short of breath. He also explained that medics may have also inflated the lungs with air or fluid prior to harvesting them for donation. This makes them look much larger than the normal deflated lung postmortem, he said. the latest video at

Smoking is the biggest avoidable cause of cancer and is known to produce chemicals that cause at least 15 different forms of the disease. Evidence shows it causes around 70 percent of all cases of lung cancer, which has the highest death count of any form of cancer.

People are drawn to smoking because nicotine can make them feel good, but it’s easy to become addicted and very difficult to quit once smoking becomes a habit. Smoking kills 1.2million people every year and people who do it are twice as likely to have a heart attack and up to 30 times more likely to get lung cancer.

Stop smoking and enjoy a longer life!
